Pick Up Points
Web service
Client: Norwegian distribution network Helthjem
(part of the Schibsted media group)

Design and development of a web service for creating unique ads in order status notifications

The service allows store owners to embed their promotions into the order status notifications, once the order arrives at the pickup point located on the store's territory.

This motivates Pick Up Points users to visit the store when they grab their order from a pickup point.

What we have done

Advanced business analysis
UX and UI Design
Front-end and back-end development
We started with a design prototype before initial development. Then we continued with UX and UI design based on user flows and user stories.
We worked on bringing UX/UI design to life during front-end development and continued with writing multifunctional API to make the connection with the client's backend.
We turned the idea into artifacts set with clear functional requirements. We based the service on detailed user flows and backed them up with carefully crafted user stories. This was all a result of the investigation phase.

How the service
helped the client's business

The project's main goal was to create a service that will become a unique selling point for the company. One that could separate them from the list of other delivery services and give a competitive advantage.

If the store owner decides to locate our client's pick-up point on their territory, they will receive additional promotions for their special offers. Store owners got the opportunity to attract new customers from parcel arrival notifications.
Thanks to this, our client was able to increase the number of their pick-up points.

Biggest challenge

This service is created for the target audience which is far from IT and other complex technologies. The average user level is someone who needs simple functionality for a quick result. Therefore, the service interface had to be as easy and as clear to use as possible.

Main features & modules
A special panel for store owners and managers. Here they can see a list of their stores and special offers.

Offer editor

We included a simple picture/photo editor in the offer creation tool. This allows users to make small yet vital changes to their pictures without switching to another app.
After running various tests, we kept only the most needed functionality - crop and rotation.
We've also added a simple text editor so that the store manager can create an attention-grabbing ad in a quick and easy way.
Quick and easy setup for valid period offer. The period for each promotion can be scheduled and selected in advance

Mobile first

We had to make sure that the service would be visible on any type of popular smartphone's screen both for users who order with Pick Up Points and to store owners who create and place "special offers". So we've developed the website with pixel perfect accuracy and mobile optimization in mind.
This is the notification the user gets when their package arrives at the pickup point.

We made adaptable offer page, so every single bit of information, like photo and offer text, could fit on the first screen. No need for scrolling no matter the gadgets' resolution.

We added a drop-down schedule with the display of current offers to save screen space.

E-mail for all

We also created and coded everything for informational emails. We took into account various mail clients and various screen resolutions.

Data Tables

We developed an intuitive UI/UX solution to move hierarchical data inside tables. Companies that have multiple shops got the ability to move a shop or a few between companies in a management panel.
Run that flow!
A store manager can expand a receiving company row. After that, they will see a short summary of donor companies and their shops. They can tick certain shops and move them to "clipboard". Those shops can be either assigned to a receiving shop ("Assign" button) or brought back if the user unchecks them out.

Multifunctional API

We wrote an API for synchronization with the client's admin system back-end. This allowed the client to add new stores and into the system and manage existing ones.
API allowed us to receive all of the data about the stores that will work in the Pick Up Point system from Helthjem. We also altered data to make it adjustable to the way it was already displayed on the client-side.
